How to swap XMR to BTC without an account

XMR to BTC is a one-way swap: you send Monero once, and the provider pays Bitcoin to the address you name. The details that matter are the address, the network and the quote window.

Key takeaways
  • Send the quoted XMR amount once to the one-time deposit address.
  • Use a native Bitcoin address, not a wrapped BTC token on another network.
  • Quotes are time-limited; check the rate before you send.

Before you start

You need a Monero wallet holding XMR and a Bitcoin wallet that can receive on the Bitcoin network. A refund address is optional, but it should be an XMR address you control.

Check that the Bitcoin address belongs to the person or service receiving the payout. A Bitcoin address cannot be reversed once the payout is broadcast.

  • A self-custody Monero wallet, not a balance held on an exchange.
  • A Bitcoin address on the Bitcoin network.
  • Enough XMR to cover the swap and the Monero network fee.

Use a Bitcoin address, not a wrapped BTC token

Bitcoin addresses can start with 1, 3 or bc1 depending on the address type. Your wallet generates the address it can receive on; copy it exactly instead of typing it by hand.

A token called BTC on another network is not native Bitcoin. If you send the payout to a wrapped or bridged BTC address, the receiving wallet must support that network and token; otherwise the funds may not arrive as expected.

Keep in mind

The network selector and the address must describe the same asset. When in doubt, ask the receiving wallet which network it uses for BTC.

Review the quote before sending

Enter the XMR amount and the BTC payout address. The quote shows the amount you send, the amount you receive and the rate used for the order.

Rates are time-limited. If the quote window closes before your deposit is detected, the final amount can change. Check the asset names, the network and the address before you continue.

Send the XMR exactly once

The order screen gives you a one-time Monero deposit address. Send the exact amount shown from the wallet you control. The Monero network fee is separate from the swap amount.

Do not add a memo or destination tag unless the interface explicitly asks for one. Do not send a second transfer because the page has not updated yet; wait for the deposit to be detected.

  • Use the exact deposit address from this order.
  • Do not reuse an address from an earlier swap.
  • Leave enough balance for the Monero network fee.

After the deposit is detected

The order moves through a small set of states: the deposit is received, the swap is executed, and the BTC payout is sent. The page shows the deposit and payout transaction hashes as they become available.

Keep the order link or order id if you need to check the swap later. The page does not require an account, but anyone with the link can view its details.

Common mistakes

Most failed swaps are caused by a wrong address or a deposit that arrives outside the order window, not by the exchange calculation itself.

  • Sending BTC on a different network than the one shown in the order.
  • Using an exchange deposit address without checking that it accepts the payout.
  • Sending less than the minimum or more than the quoted amount.
  • Sending the deposit after the payment window has expired.
Keep in mind

Crypto transfers are irreversible. For a first XMR to BTC swap, start with a small amount and confirm the whole flow before moving a larger balance.

This guide explains how the interface works. It is not financial, legal or tax advice. Crypto transfers are irreversible; verify the asset, network and address before sending.
